Storage Facility Painting
in Fredericksburg
Commercial Painting
This project was to repaint a self-storage facility in Fredericksburg. The storage facility was taken over and consisted of a re-brand where they needed the color of the storage garage doors, exterior trim, & interior trim changed from a bright red color to a deep blue color. This facility was quite large and consisted of over 85 garage doors to be painted as well as some exterior & interior trim components.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
The facility was in great condition when we started, as the garage doors were factory powder coated in the bright red color scheme. There was not a lot of surface preparation that went into the project beyond cleaning the substrates and properly masking to avoid overspray.
This project involved cleaning, masking, and painting over 85 corrugated storage garage doors, exterior metal window trim, and interior wall surfaces to change the color from a bright red to a deep blue.
SPECIAL CHALLENGES:
Due to unique challenges that involved the previous slick glossy garage door coating, we had to make sure that we chose a primer that was specifically designed to adhere to the substrates without peeling or flaking. Due to a national paint shortage, we had to reach out to our paint reps, as well as search through out own on-hand products to procure the Primer for this project. We also had to substitute the top coat and use a comparable product that would hold up to the substrate due to the paint shortage.
Another obstacle that we had to overcome was the height of the exterior metal window framing. We had initially quoted to use ladders to reach these surfaces, but found that an articulating boom lift was in fact needed to reach the upper surfaces and complete the project correctly.
This project ended up requiring the use of a 60 foot lift to reach the upper areas of the metal window framing to prime and paint these substrates correctly.
PROJECT TIMELINE
The project was completed in 1.5 weeks.
