Restoration of the Fencing Facility

Located in Fairfax, Virginia, the fencing facility specializes in National and Olympic style training in the sport of Fencing. The fencing facility was looking to refresh the condition and look of their interior walls, stairwell, and doors, frames, and window sills to create a more aesthetically pleasing look for management, staff, students, and patrons.

This project required expert coordination to ensure the fencing facility services to staff, students, and patrons were not disrupted. We supported the facility operations by coordinating with property management to complete the tasks at the specified dates and times. Our goal was to complete this project at the dates and time specified and agreed upon by property management in coordination with CertaPro Painters, so that the facility could continue to operate smoothly during and after the project.

About the Project

The project included professional coordination, communication, safety measures, equipment preparation and cleaning, application techniques and processes, and the use of the top rated industrial-grade coatings and materials from Sherwin-Williams.

CertaPro Painters of Fairfax and Prince William and Northern Virginia’s (“CertaPro”) goal was to deliver the customer service and results envisioned by property management and the fencing facility. Our team provided the services, craftsmanship, and technical expertise needed to achieve the desired outcome, recondition the paintable surfaces, and restore their protective properties. We provided all supervision, labor, materials and tools to perform all work included in the project.

Project Involvement:

Our painting contractors performed professional-grade preparation for all surfaces that were to be painted. This included patching holes, repairing cracks, and repairing surface damage (e.g., gouges, scrapes, nail pops that have broken through drywall).

In addition, CertaPro removed the 3ft high vinyl clapboard and performed finishing level preparation on the designated walls surrounding the restrooms and in the hallways. This included repairing damaged drywall, skim coating the surfaces, sanding smooth, priming, and painting. We also spot primed any bare substrate or new substrate repair work prior to being painted to permit proper adherence of the topcoat.

In terms of painting, CertaPro Painters utilized the best quality products:

Sherwin Williams ProMar 200 Zero VOC Interior Latex- For all designated walls and columns, we applied 2 coats of Sherwin Williams ProMar 200 Zero VOC Interior Latex in an Eggshell Finish. This product delivers maximum productivity with exceptional durability and touch up.

Sherwin Williams, ProMar 200 Zero VOC Interior Latex- For the doors/frames and window sills, we applied 2 coats of Sherwin Williams, ProMar 200 Zero VOC Interior Latex in a Semi-Gloss Finish.

Sherwin Williams, DTM Acrylic Latex- For the stairwell components (railings system, hand rails, trim/stringers, risers, and landing ceiling, we applied 1 coat of Sherwin Williams, DTM Acrylic Latex in a Semi-Gloss Finish. This product is a high build coating that provides excellent flexibility, durability and resistance.

PRIMER – Sherwin Williams, Multi-Purpose Water Based Acrylic-Alkyd Primer- For repairs to wall surfaces, we utilized Multi-Purpose Water Based Acrylic-Alkyd Primer (Spot Prime) to ensure uniform and maximum coverage of the top coat.

PRIMER – Sherwin Williams, Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer- For metal components that were to be spot primed, we applied Sherwin Williams, Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer.

Our Fairfax team followed product specifications in regard to preparation and applied wet film thickness of all products. All paint was applied in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s minimum recommendations. Paint was applied using brush/roller or spraying equipment with back rolling to avoid any defects, streaks, and sagging.

Challenges:

Due to the operations functions of the facility, project commencement was to wrap up each day by 4pm as the facility conducted training classes each evening. CertaPro Painters was able to successfully coordinate schedule accommodations with property management to avoid disrupting operations functions while still finishing on schedule. CertaPro Painters properly masked all surrounding components to ensure a clean environment throughout the project.

Equipment:

The project required ladders to access elevated walls and inaccessible areas that were to be painted. The project was completed on schedule while ensuring operations for the facility were not disrupted. Property Management was very happy with the final results.
