Interior Church Painting Project

The Church located in Herndon, Virginia was looking to refresh the condition and look of their Sanctuary, Vestibule, Hallways, and Offices for a more aesthetically pleasing look for Church Clergy Staff, and Parishioners. The project involved professional and timely coordination to ensure the Church’s services to both staff and parishioners were not disrupted for the duration of the project. We supported the Church operations by coordinating with on-site management to complete the tasks at the pre-determined dates and times, so that the Church could continue to operate smoothly before, during, and after the project.

Our goal was to deliver the customer service and results envisioned by Church management and their Parishioners. In so doing, we provided the services, craftsmanship, and technical expertise needed to achieve the desired outcome reconditioned the paintable surfaces and restored their protective properties.

About the Project

Condition of Facility:

This project included coordination to ensure that the church services to both staff and patrons were not disrupted. We supported the facility operations by completing the tasks at specified dates and times. The project included coordination, communication, safety measures, equipment preparation, cleaning, application techniques and processes, and the use of the top-rated industrial-grade coatings and materials from Sherwin-Williams.

Project Involvement:

The project involved re-painting/refreshing the existing color palette on the walls and trim of the Sanctuary, Vestibule, Hallways, and Offices.

  • Prep – We paid attention to the details to ensure all surfaces were properly prepared (“paint-ready”) prior to paint application. This included performing Level-3 Professional Preparation to all surrounding surfaces ie. addressing all nail pops/holes, damaged drywall (including wall scuffs), repairing cracks and tape seams, re-caulking open seams around trim, and spot priming bare surfaces/repair work so as to ensure a uniform finish of the top coat of paint.
  • Paint – CertaPro Painters® only uses the highest-quality Sherwin Williams paint including:
  • Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Water-Based Epoxy in an eggshell finish for the walls and a semi-gloss finish for the trim
    *   ProMar Ceiling Paint in a flat finish for the ceilings
  • We followed product specifications in regard to preparation and applied wet film thickness to all products. These premium coatings far surpass other quality paints guaranteeing great lasting results that will enhance the appearance and reduce maintenance burden. All paint was applied in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s minimum recommendations and applied using a brush/roller or spraying equipment with back rolling to avoid any defects, streaks, and sagging.

Special Challenges:

The project was completed safely and efficiently. It did require the use of ladders and scaffolding equipment to efficiently and safely access elevated areas (particularly the elevated walls and ceiling areas in the Sanctuary) as well as difficult and challenging painting areas. In order to access the wall spaces in the Sanctuary, it was critical that all sound panels be temporarily taken down in advance and we coordinated with Church management to have all sound panels and any other additional furniture, wall hangings taken down/re-located as we moved throughout the Sanctuary and corresponding areas included within the scope of work. Due to the operational hours of the Church and regularly scheduled obligations daily/weekly, we coordinated with Church management to ensure access to the project while also following through with completing the project within the requested timetables so as not to disrupt services/Church Activities. Overall, we delivered on the expectations envisioned by Church staff and management and delivered extraordinary results.
