Service Day at Francis Scott Key Elementary

Posted on October 13, 2019

I am pleased to say we have over 50+ different business partners who have already, or are going to donate school supplies, volunteer the day of the event or make monetary donations to the cause. We have a number of you who are doing various projects at the school including, but not limited to; large landscaping projects, fitness equipment donation & preventative maintenance of existing fitness equipment, painting projects (including the monument in the front of the school & the marquee by Fort Avenue, interior cleaning of the school, sign replacements and decal creations with different FSK logos for various parts of the school, pressure washing of all concrete sidewalk areas and playground equipment, restriping of the parking lot & bus lane, steam cleaning of ALL carpeted areas of the school, electrical & plumbing projects too!

With the help of Cathie Zimmerman, one of our resident here at Silo Point we are also very lucky to have Hull Street Blues, Port Public House, City Limits, Peppa Flame, Amber, Jazz+Soju, Iron Rooster, Serenity Wine Bar, Earth Shake & Dessert Fantasies to donate food/beverages or offer a discount to volunteers. We will be creating a card with the participating restaurants to be presented when you go to their establishment. Each volunteer will receive a card at the event.

Thanks to Mark Lund of IHeart Media I was honored to be able to go to the iHeart radio station to be interviewed (on air & recorded) to raise awareness of the event. Corey Basmajian, the principal at FSK was able to join me for one of the interviews with Lee Michaels of HEAVEN 600 and give his insight on what this means for the school & how appreciative he was of Silo Point, all the vendor help and FirstService Residential. I was also interviewed by Jeff St. Pierre for the Maryland Today radio show, which airs on ALL of the iHeart stations. We also had a videographer from FirstService Residential here for a couple days as well, as our corporate team would like to create a documentary of our event as to create a road map for the other communities we manage. The videographer conducted interviews while he was here of residents and vendors alike, along with Corey at FSK.

After our last Silo Point Board meeting I had a very specific question for Jerry Pech, one of our residents. Jerry works over at Ft. McHenry giving tours (I would HIGHLY recommend) I asked him if Ft. McHenry would be willing to donate a flag to the school as the one they currently have flying out front is not in the greatest of shape with tears and such. The response I got from Jerry was much more than I expected! He told me that if I purchased a flag he would see to it that the flag would be flown over the Fort & we could then present it to the school….I was humbled & honored at the same time! Francis Scott Key NEEDS a flag that is flown over Ft. McHenry, anything less is unacceptable! It only makes sense, right?

Anyways, we still have 10 days to go until the Service Day on the 14th and we are still looking for even more volunteers, donations and school supplies! So please, if you have not donated school supplies or already reached out to me to volunteer try & do so in the next week so I can get an accurate (or as close to it) head count.
