Interior Church Painting Project

Our commercial painting team completed this interior church painting project here in Catonsville, MD. We began this project in April 2022 and it took 2.5 weeks to complete. This project was for a large sanctuary of a Methodist church. The area was about 3500 sq. feet with about 3000 feet of ceiling painting, 6000 feet of wall area. Also, about 50 pews as well as pulpits, kneelers, etc. were hand painted.
Before the project began…
The ceiling required repair of 3 damaged areas from a roof leak. The trim color was changed from cream to white to lighten up the area and give it a more modern feel.

Were there any special challenges involved? The challenge of the project was that the pews were bolted to the floor and we did not want to remove them. They were also very close to the high sidewalls and would not allow for an extension ladder for painting of those walls. Therefore, we needed to get a special bakers scaffold on wheels that we could move in and out of the pew area in order to reach the high ceiling an have access to the high walls & trim.
Did the project require any special equipment or techniques? Yes, a movable scaffold on wheels was used so the pews could remain in place. This scaffold straddled a few pews (see pictures) and was able to be moved between them for access to the ceiling and walls.
Completed Project
We painted the ceiling, walls, trim (crown molding, columns, baseboard, doors/frames, window frames) and around 50 previously painted sides of pews, as well as pulpit areas, kneelers, etc. The church looked as good as new!
