Taking to the walls with paint is surely a quick way to update your home. What happens if you are a renter, or cannot take your home apart for the job? You can still add style and color with paint through other means. Here are 10 small paint projects to transform your home.
These painting projects will give you the pop of color in your room without requiring you to move furniture and tape off trim.
Seating
Have some old or shabby end tables or wooden chairs? Breath new life into them with an all-over paint job. It turns a plain living room or kitchen table into a centerpiece. Uncommon colors for items will wow guests. If you are painting a kitchen table, try a different color on each chair.
Doors
As the first greeting your visitors see, use a brightly or unexpected front door color to impress. Black or peppercorn front doors have been found to raise house value by up to $6,000 according to Zillow. Check with governing bodies like homeowner’s associations before committing to a color. If they turn down your hues, keep it inside and paint your interior doors.
Mirrors
Use an old mirror or thrift store find to coordinate with your color scheme. Apply a coat of paint to the exterior. There are techniques to age or freshen a mirror available online. Create a piece of art with a one-of-a-kind creation by you.
Ceiling art
Take down an outdated chandelier and add one with color. Either paint the one you have in a new color to kick it up a notch, or hit your local thrift store for a piece to paint. Two leading looks in design communities are Tiffany blue or all black.
Frames
Make a unified art gallery by painting frames of different sizes and styles in one shade of your favorite color. Red, yellow or pink will stand out in a fun way. This is a great way to add color to a dreary hallway or stairway. This works really well for renters that are limited in their ability to paint the walls.
Lamps
In the same vein as frames, give mismatched or older lamps a new lease by painting them a color that compliments the room. Paint bases, shades or both.
Kitchen
New kitchen cabinets are pricey and messy. Give your kitchen a renovation by painting the cabinets. Not up to the task for the whole cabinet renovation? Try painting just the doors to give a two-toned effect in your kitchen.
Stairs
Create some drama in your stairway by painting the steps. There are a lot of styles to paint steps with. The most common is to paint a color on the front facing portion of the steps or banister spindles. Be sure to purchase high quality and durable brands for areas of high touch and high traffic
Utensils
Pops of color in unexpected places delight and surprise. Wrap and tape off the eating portion of the utensil and dip the top half into paint. Use one color to make a matching set or go wild with a scheme of colors. Hint: These also make great gifts.
Planters
Don’t neglect your plants! Paint plain planters with vivid colors or match them to the room they are in. Add fun to your porch with painted planters. Then add your house number on the pots. It’s a unique and fun way to help guests find you. Don’t limit painted planters to the exterior of your home.
