Three Tips For Painting Your Home In The Winter

Posted on November 20, 2019

The holidays are a magical time, but then sets in the long, dreary winter months. Why not get through the winter season surrounded by a refreshing new interior color. Winter is the perfect time to tackle interior painting and an uplifted spirit is just what you need to finish the season in high spirits. Here are 3 tips for painting your home in the winter.

Use a good product

Quality paints will make the work you do last longer and look better. Our pro painters always use top manufacturers for the quality of their products. As an added benefit, these producers will normally carry a warranty on their paint. You can rest assured that if their paint fails for any reason of their own, they will replace it.

Paint for warmth

When you are dealing with the coldest temperatures, work around the times of day when it will be sunniest. The ambient temperature in the room you are painting should be above 50 degrees. Even on the coldest days, inside your home, working during the warmest part of the day, generally between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. should allow these temperatures to be achieved.

Beneficial cooling

While working inside your house, stay safe from fumes by opening windows. The cooler breezes will blow out fumes and allow a cooler, fresher air to enter the room. Since the humidity and heat of the air is gone, you’ll notice shorter dry times. There is less chance of failures cropping up within the paint. Chipping, peeling and bubbling are far less likely to happen with temperatures falling lower.

Early light

If you are working alone, take advantage of early morning light to get your project started early. If you have snow on the ground, it’s even better! The snow reflects sunshine into your room and can allow you to identify holidays earlier. Use the brightness to make sure you have good coverage and time to do more than one coat in a day.
