Interior Painting FAQ: Answers from the Pros

Posted on October 24, 2022

Interior painting is something we do every day, but for you, it may be something you only do every few years. So, you probably have a few questions. Below is a list of the usual interior painting questions our professionals painters receive. However, if you have more questions, please ask. We’re happy to help!

Do I need to be home while the interior painters are there?

No. We do ask that you be present during the first and last 10 minutes of the project. During the first 10 minutes on the project start date is when you will meet with the Job Site Supervisor to be able to review the contract, ask any questions, address any concerns, and go over the project plan. Then during the last 10 minutes, or the Pride Walk as we call it, you will be able to review all the work that was completed with the Job Site Supervisor or Project Manager to ensure your complete satisfaction.

How long will it take to paint my home’s interior?

The time it takes to paint your home’s interior depends on the size of the painting project and the size of the crew we put on your project.  In general, our average crew of 3 painters can paint two 12 x 12 rooms (walls and trim) per day.  Because we have both large and small painting crews, we can put a larger crew on a project if you need it done faster.

Here’s a general idea of how an interior project progresses:

  • Painters move the furniture to the center of room(s) and drape the furniture with plastic.
  • Colors sampled and finalized, and wall preparation begins.
  • Holes in drywall, plaster or horsehair plaster are repaired and sanded.
  • Wood trim is sanded
  • Primer is applied either as a spot prime on areas that were repaired, or as a full prime when changing wall color drastically.
  • 1-2 coats of a premium quality paint are applied to walls and trim.
  • Touch ups are done after customer inspection is complete.

What do I look for in a good painting company?

It can be incredibly stressful to paint the interior or exterior of your house. One thing that can make it incredibly more difficult is hiring the wrong house painters. Fortunately, this is something that can be easily avoided by doing just a little bit of the right research.

  • Look in Your Price Range: The most important part of any project is staying on budget. Painting is no different! Set up a general budget for your painting project before even contacting any painting companies. Then, request 3-5 estimates from paint companies you are considering.
  • Review Painting Services: The next step in hunting for the right house painter is to review the services each company can offer. Painting a house typically will require a bit more work than you initially think. Power washing, sanding, and repairs are pretty common for both interior and exterior projects. We recommend choosing a company that can take care of all of these things for you.
  • Check out the Reviews: Our last tip is to look at what their previous clients have said about their work. This is probably one of the most important ways to get a sense of what the company will be like if you choose them for your project. Reviews can often be found on a website, Google, and Yelp. You may also want to check in on their rankings with the BBB!
