Project Overview

In October and November of 2021, CertaPro Painters® of Chattanooga, TN took a road trip to the Labrie Environmental Group’s manufacturing center in Lafayette, GA to paint the exterior of the expansive building. This included metal siding, gutters/downspouts, trim and all doors – including the bay doors for completed trucks.

Labrie Environmental Group - Before Painting

Prep and Equipment

The bulk of the task ahead of us was tackling the metal siding of the garage where Labrie’s team performed their work. The paint had not been addressed in a very long time, so it was very faded and dirty in places. Unsurprisingly for a facility that manufactures large garbage trucks, the walls were quite high and not always immediately accessible, so our team made use of a 60ft lift to ensure we could get where we needed. Plastic covers were also placed in the areas closest to our working surfaces to ensure vital equipment was not damaged or exposed to overspray.

Challenges

One of the main priorities when considering our approach for this job was making sure that we wouldn’t be interrupting the work of Labrie’s teams inside the building. The facility was a very busy place loaded with chassis, parts, and of course, fully completed trucks that were constantly being taken from one place to the next, meaning we had to be extra careful to avoid overspray. This was especially true for the bay doors that were crucial to the team’s ability to move trucks in and out of the building.

By constantly communicating with Labrie’s facilities manager and safety manager, we were able to ensure that our presence outside of the building was never an interruption to the workers within. Thanks to this close communication and consideration of the hazards, both our team and Labrie’s were able to go about our business efficiently and, most importantly, safely.

The Finished Product

After 2 months of hard work and 550 gallons of paint, the facility’s exterior was given a very welcome refresh that will not only impress visually, but will stand up to the rigors of Labrie’s manufacturing work for years to come.

“Being on a job this long, we were able to develop a great and lasting relationship with our contacts. We left this job with two contacts that will not only call us for future projects, but they will recommend us to others as well.”
