Why Fall Is a Great Time to Paint Your House

Posted on October 24, 2019

Fall presents a new set of seasonal expectations. Apple picking, pumpkin carving and painting your home. Yes, you read that right. While fall doesn’t get a lot of thought as a season for painting, it might be the ideal time. Here are four reasons why fall is a great time to paint your house.

Flexibility

Trying to schedule painters to work on your house in spring or summer can be next to impossible. Spring cleaning and warmer temperatures encourage outdoor work on homes around the country. Busy season means long waits before your estimate appointment and a delay before production starts at your home. When fall rolls in, most families are heading indoors for the cooler winter months. This means less competition for appointment times. You’ll have more flexibility in scheduling both your estimate and production.

Precipitation

With the summer sun, the chance of rain is also waning. Rain can throw off schedules for painting. Your home needs to be completely dried out before work can begin. Every rain storm is a delay in work. In addition, dew points are more likely to cause condensation on the new paint, leaving marks behind when it dries. Fall temperatures and precipitation is much more conducive to exterior painting jobs with longer days, less heat and less rain.

Humidity

No matter whether you are painting inside or outside, you need the moisture in the air to cooperate. Humidity can affect the dry time and bonding of new paint on your home. As the seasons change, humidity drops to a level that will not change the dry times of your job. You won’t have to worry about the paint not bonding to the exterior of your home.

Temperatures

Many people are excited with the lower temperatures. This is another good reason to paint your house now. The chill in the air allows painters to get the job done in more comfortable temperatures. WIthout the sun beating down, there will be less breaks and the ability to work longer hours. As a side note, your paint will dry better as the mercury falls.
