Accentuating Your Home Through Accent Colors

At CertaPro Painters® of Chagrin Falls,  we’ve completed countless interior paintings. Adding accent colors to particular parts of your home can be a simple and effective way to bring a unique mood to your home!

Painting your stairs may seem like something out of the ordinary at first glance; but with the right accent color, your stairs can be the heart of the revitalization that your home has been waiting for! To be clear, you don’t want to pick any color and lather up your stairs with it; instead, you’ll want to make sure of a harmonizing contrast between the new staircase color and the existing color scheme. For instance, if your stairs are in a room with dominant warm neutral colors, teal accents and natural wood features, a teal-accented staircase could liven up the area graciously. Alternatively, if you have a room with a dominant teal wall color and warm neutral accents, a full teal makeover for your staircase might be overindulgent.

Interior doors serve as another outlet for livening up the home with accent colors. As mentioned earlier, you’ll want to make sure that you are strategic in your accent color choice for interior doors, coordinating the new door color with the general color scheme of your home. Picture this, a home that’s interior is predominantly cold neutral colors throughout, and bright yellow interior doors to evoke positivity, energy and creativity as you navigate from room to room. That sounds to me like quite the exuberant living space!

Lastly, let’s talk about an accent wall. An accent wall is a wonderful facet for bringing unique style to your home, but there are a few key things that you’ll want to keep in mind. Location, accent color, additive décor, and frequency (if you wanted to have multiple accent walls). Given that the purpose of an accent wall is to scream for attention, you’ll want to make sure that the location is appropriate and the wall is designed for its audience. For example, a common area accent wall might include an accent color that communicates well with the color scheme of the room, with an elegant painting as a décor piece to give it more depth. Common areas of the home are primarily where home guests will be passing through, so we want to format the accent wall with a guest audience in mind. On the other hand, a bedroom accent wall can be more intimate and personalized, as the bedroom will have the home’s residents as the primary audience. In any case, we want to make sure that the accent wall is appropriately colored and decorated based on it’s location. Additionally, you might not want to add too many accent walls into your home, as the increased frequency could diminish the intrinsic value of having an accent wall in the first place.
