Family Meats Processing Plant Painting Project in Calgary, AB
CertaPro of Calgary & Central Alberta completed a commercial painting project at Family Meats, an 8,500 sq. ft. meat processing plant in Ponoka, Alberta. The project focused on repainting the rusted steel beams in the processing area, requiring careful execution to avoid contamination of equipment. Given the facility’s operational schedule, the work was completed over two weekend phases in November 2024.
CHALLENGES:
Extensive masking was used to protect machinery, and rust removal was done using power drills with wire brush attachments. A scissor lift was necessary to access the 20-foot-high beams. The project needed to take place during the weekend, outside of production hours.
CONDITIONS:
Aged Property – The steel beams above the processing facility were rusted.
Protection – The client’s top priority was protecting all fixed equipment, as any falling rust could have led to a facility shutdown for extensive cleaning.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
The beams were treated with an industrial rust-inhibiting primer and finished with two coats of Sherwin-Williams direct-to-metal paint. The strategic approach ensured minimal disruption to operations while delivering a durable, high-quality finish.
PROJECT TIMELINE – This project was completed in phases, taking place over two weekends in November 2024.
