Prep and Challenges

Being an industrial ceiling with myriad light fixtures, HVAC and audio/visual equipment fixed to it, there was considerable masking work required to ensure that our painting wouldn’t cause any damage. In addition to protecting all of this equipment, extra care had to be taken to apply the same protection to the walls and floors of the gymnasium – a job that we did not take lightly given that the safety of students and faculty during gym class would require that these surfaces remain in clean, smooth condition.

To that point, our crews also made sure to minimize the overall footprint and noise level of our work so as not to disturb the classes and activities taking place throughout the rest of the school.

Completing the Job

A scissor lift was required at almost every step of the process, including the masking of the ceiling-mounted equipment and, of course, the painting itself. As opposed to setting up scaffolding, the mobile lift allowed us to complete the job much more quickly and efficiently.

The Finished Product

When everything was said and done, the new black coating on the ceiling had created a much warmer and less “industrial” feeling for the gym which faculty, and many generations of students to come, will be able to enjoy for years to come thanks to the durable materials used and the expert application by our team members.
