Boulder County Fairgrounds
Commercial Painting Projects in Boulder, Longmont & Surrounding Areas
Fairgrounds Paint Project in Longmont, Colorado
The Boulder County Fairgrounds is a well-known community staple offering multiple facilities for residential use. The structures include a 40,000+ sq. ft. Exhibit Building, multiple 30,000+ sq. ft. barns and a 40,000+ sq. ft. Indoor Arena, among other buildings. The fairgrounds facilities are utilized to host trade shows, animal and livestock shows, fairs, rodeos, picnics and large meetings. The fairgrounds is located just off of Hover Street towards the South end of Longmont in the heart of Boulder County.
Hands down the staff over at CertaPro Painters are the best! Not only did they exceed my expectations on the work they completed but their customer service is excellent! Bob Schneider and his crew always checked in to make sure everything was being done to my satisfaction.

CHALLENGES:
Some of the challenges posed throughout the project were access to certain areas of the Exhibit Building. The 1st level roofing extended over 30’ from the 2nd level siding, meaning a 120’ boom lift was needed to safely reach the 2nd level siding to paint.
CertaPro Painters® of Boulder and Longmont is lift certified and follows OSHA protocol to ensure the safety of the painters and the structure. There were also very large and expansive sections of siding where the painters had to use high-skill application techniques to avoid flashing and sheen variations.
There was rust on siding and gutters and downspouts where water exposure had caused corrosion. We wire brushed the rust and any loose or flaking material to get a sound substrate base. Then we applied an industrial-grade rust-inhibiting primer that both encapsulates the existing surface and mitigates future rusting from similar moisture exposure. The end result is an incredible aesthetic look with highly durable coatings for protection for years to come.
Lastly, we coordinated a detailed production schedule to work around intermittent and ongoing trade shows, fairs and other gatherings. Our production team expertly executed our process to ensure a smooth project. We were able to accommodate the schedule of the county and events while still completing the job ahead of schedule.

PROJECT TIMELINE
Started: September 2017
Duration: September 2017 – October 2017
The project was completed in 4 weeks, ahead of schedule despite some weather interruptions.
The customer wanted as short of a production time frame as possible since it is an active facility with high trucking and delivery usage, as well as a retail storefront area. We always ensure that we only paint when weather conditions are appropriate.
BEFORE PHOTOS
Before the project began, some of the structures had not been coated in at least 20 years. They all feature corrugated metal siding with extensive oxidation and a significant amount of rust. Color fading was so drastic that what originally was a maroon siding color turned brown. The paint was literally worn away to nearly nothing on certain substrates.
Corrosion Issue
There was rust on siding and gutters/downspouts where water exposure had caused corrosion. We wire brushed the rust and any loose/flaking material to get a sound substrate base, then applied an industrial-grade rust-inhibiting primer
Rusting Issues
We applied an industrial-grade rust-inhibiting primer that both encapsulates the existing surface and mitigates future rusting.
THE FINAL RESULTS
After completion we walked around the building and took photos of each area of concern. These were of note at the beginning of the project. The once failing surfaces look brand new again.
