Elevating Exteriors at Red Rocks Community College

In May 2025, our team completed a one-week exterior refresh at Red Rocks Community College in Arvada, CO. The project focused on restoring the appearance and protecting the surfaces of a previously unpainted brick building, along with its surrounding metal features and a detached shed.

We partnered with Behr and Home Depot to source the products for this project. The Behr representative custom-matched the deep red shade used on the railings and awnings, then collaborated with their lab to optimize the formula specifically for durability on metal surfaces in an exterior educational setting. This extra step helped ensure both performance and visual consistency throughout the project.

SCOPE OF THE WORK:

When we began, the building’s brick exterior had visible signs of past repairs, while metal railings and awnings showed areas of rust.

The full scope of work included painting the building’s brick and masonry, doors, vents, railings, and awnings.

We also repainted a detached shed to match the building’s two-color scheme, ensuring a cohesive look across the site. The result was a revitalized and protected exterior that enhances the campus’s appearance while addressing surface durability.

OUR PROCESS:

To ensure a long-lasting finish, we started with a thorough power washing, followed by hand-scraping and spot priming wherever the existing coating was failing.

On galvanized steel surfaces, we used Rustoleum XIM primer for reliable topcoat adhesion. For the remaining areas, Behr Multi-Surface Primer was selected for its rust-inhibiting properties, which paired effectively with the specified Alkyd Urethane enamel finish used on the metal features.
