Elastomeric Paint Services

Elastomeric paint is a coating for buildings that protects masonry and concrete surfaces. This paint is suggested for buildings that endure wind-driven rain and high and low temperatures. The paint is approximately 10 times thicker than traditional exterior paints with 100 percent acrylic binders. It’s known for the ability to fill in small cracks and create a waterproof coating to stand up to Northern Colorado weather.

Elastomeric coatings should be considered for exterior paint jobs in Boulder County and surrounding areas because they can offer further protection than traditional latex or oil-based paint.

Here are some of the advantages of choosing this coating system:

Flexible

Dries hard and bonds to the structure yet remains pliable with the building through temperature changes. In Colorado, this is critical because we experience 40+ degree temperature swings in a matter of hours!

Efficient

This coating is a green option to improve energy efficiency within a building.

Weather-resistant

UV and wind-driven rain-resistant coating. It will stand up to the precipitation.

Layers

Fewer coatings required to hide imperfections and hairline cracks allowing an excellent finished product.

While an elastomeric coating is often a good option to combat the elements here in Northern Colorado, with any coating, there are drawbacks. Sometimes,
the substrate doesn’t need an elastomeric coating either. Choosing this coating is not for every project, and that is why we offer free proposals that are customized and individualized to each project based on the conditions and parameters of the budget and scope of work.

Here are a few of the issues that can be encountered with elastomeric paints.

Costs

For homes that have a sound coating that isn’t suffering from UV leaching or precipitation damage, elastomeric coatings might be more protection than your home needs. Exterior house paint is costly, but elastomeric coatings can cost significantly more, largely because of how many more gallons are required.

Waterproofing

If your home or building doesn’t need the additional waterproofing of elastomeric coating, stucco siding can be completely protected with regular exterior paint. For traditional painting on stucco, our teams recommend using a masonry sealer/primer and quality coatings of finish paint that gives great protection for a lower cost.

Thickness

For homes that have multiple coats of paint on them already, adding the thickness of elastomeric paint might not be advisable. Elastomeric applications are significantly thicker than a traditional paint coating. By overloading your walls, you may end up with an unappealing look.
