15 Painting Hacks you Need from a Professional Painting Company
Posted on May 21, 2024
Painting even a small project can seem very daunting. We have spoken to our painting company experts and picked up some tried and true painting hacks they employ everyday – and now you can too. Here are the painting hacks you need to know.
- Put a layer of tin foil in your painting tray. It’s no muss, no fuss clean up.
- Tired of the stink of paint in your face? Put a few drops of vanilla extract in the bucket and stir it around. It might not remove the smell, but it will sure make it easier to tolerate.
- Try cardboard to protect your floors. It doesn’t slide around as much and will also absorb small spills.
- Wipe down walls with a dry rag before you begin to paint. You’ll be surprised how much dust is hanging onto them.
- Paint in a w shape when rolling walls. It ensures you get every spot with an even coverage.
- Our experts have two suggestions for brushes. Soak them in fabric softeners to maintain flexibility but vinegar is a great natural cleaner.
- Are you painting a small piece of furniture? Elevate it with screws to make sure the furniture and new paint doesn’t stick to the floor.
- Have a spot you don’t want to paint? Put a layer of Vaseline over it, paint around, then wipe the Vaseline away.
- After your paint is dried, use a paper bag to rub over any uneven spots. Think of it as a very light sanding.
- Have a tight spot to paint? Use press-and-seal wrap to protect items you don’t want painted. Be careful because it’s no substitute for taping, but it can save fixtures or appliances from getting an unwanted coat of paint.
- Use a flat scraper to remove paint from window panes or mirrors. It’s much quicker to scrape off dried paint, than tape off windows.
- Don’t fight with tape. Use a hair dryer to heat it up before trying to peel it off. This will ensure no sticky residue is left behind, and a crisp clear line.
- Stretch a rubber band over the bucket to remove excess paint from your brush without it dripping down the sides of the bucket.
- Opening a paint can that has dried together can be really impossible. Wipe the edge before you seal up the can to avoid the tug of war later.
- Put your remaining paint on a cloth or cardboard before you close the lid to prevent a splatter situation.
