Color Trends 2022

Posted on May 20, 2022

We love color. And we love trends. But we also love a classic look that will stand the test of time.

When it comes to interior design, it can be challenging to find the balance between incorporating fun trends and sticking with what’s tried and true. If you’re not careful, you can end up with a space that looks dated in just one to two years.

So how do you keep your space looking fresh and new without sacrificing your classic style?

I’m going to show you some easy ways to update your space with the help of color trends. If you’re ready to update your home decor, then take a look at this guide to some of the most popular trends that we’re seeing in 2022!

The first color trend we’re going to showcase is having soft romantic blushes for your bedrooms. For those of you who want a more elegant and romantic feel in your bedrooms, blushes are the way to go. Whether it’s decor or paint, having blushes will definitely give you that elegant and romantic feel. These colors are also perfect for anyone who is looking to evoke a sense of peace and calm in their home. As you’re looking through colors, ask yourself if the shade in question feels warm, natural, or blushy.

Think of blush like white or grey: a color that you’ll be able to use as a neutral and that you can pair with anything. If you’re not sure where to start, try adding some blush elements to the bedroom or bathroom walls — and add a few throw pillows, maybe a shower curtain, in a richer tone. Then move on from there!

As an example, we suggest colors like Sherwin-Williams Cosmetic Blush or Alaea.
The first is a soft, muted pink that will give any room a sense of tranquility, while the second is a deeper shade that makes for a great accent color.

If blush is the new neutral, natural is the new accent color. From sage greens and deep browns to rich reds and soft blues, these are the colors that are going to make your home look like an elegant homage to nature—but without all the bugs trying to eat your food. Try adding some natural touches to your living room and kitchen by painting an accent wall.

You can also consider going for a cream paint color rather than dark taupes or blue-grays. Dark taupes and blue-grays are still popular options and have been for years. However, those colors are starting to wane. Don’t jump on the bandwagon of taupes and blue-grays when they are now on the way out! Instead, check out Sherwin-Williams Alabaster or Shiitake. You’ll want to choose neutral paint colors and tones if you’re looking for a refined, timeless, and effortless look.

Stark white is still popular and a great feature color. You can use it in your kitchen or bathroom as a trim color to contrast with bolder colors, or you can use it as an accent wall in your living room. The other side of stark white is pure black. Black may seem like an odd choice for a home these days, but black can be chic when used properly. Use black in smaller doses – think tiles in the bathroom, doors on cabinets in your kitchen, chairs around your dining table – instead of painting an entire room black. Check out Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. It’s a deep black that isn’t too dark. It’s perfect for accent walls in living rooms and bedrooms. On another note: mixed metals are still trendy for 2022 – brass and gold mixed with stainless steel are all perfectly “in”.

Not looking to paint your walls? You can take on the project of painting your cabinets as well. For cabinets in your kitchen, the color trends are earthy boho-chic colors. Think 70’s vibes but softer and more muted. Paints such as Rookwood Terra Cotta or Subdued Sienna. These earthy tones will help us feel connected to the natural world around us—something that’s always important. Check out the Sherwin Williams Boho Chic Color Collection.
