How to Paint High Ceilings and Walls

DIY painting projects can be quite intimidating, particularly if there is tall walls and high ceilings involved. High ceilings and walls are a beautiful feature in any room. It makes the home feel spacious and open. However, when it comes to painting projects, they are not the easiest to take on. You may be wondering if there is any way you can possibly tackle this home improvement project by yourself and there is! Read the following tips to ensure painting your high ceilings and walls goes as smoothly as possible.

Choose a ladder or scaffold

The easiest and safest wall to get your high walls and ceilings painted is by using a ladder or scaffold along with an extension pole. In most cases the job should only require a ladder just make sure you are using one high enough that you don’t have to overextend yourself. Avoid scratches on your walls from the ladder but investing in ladder covers.
Scaffolds provide a sturdy platform and make it easy to access all of your materials. You can rent them from pretty much any hardware store.

Prep the room

Remove any furniture from the room, take all décor off the walls, cover the floors with drop cloths or tarps, take down any light fixtures. If there is any furniture that is too large to remove from the room be sure to cover it as well.

If you also plan on painting the walls it’s important to keep in mind you will want to paint the ceiling first in case the paint drips.

Prime the walls before you paint so it adheres correctly and lasts longer. Priming is especially necessary if you are going from dark paint to light paint or when using bright paint colors. You apply the primer with a roller and extension pole. Start at the top of the wall.
