In May 2016, CertaPro Painters had the opportunity to assist Hyder Construction, a general contractor (GC), with a large-scale exterior painting project in Downtown Denver, CO. The project, which spanned two months, involved giving a fresh, modern facelift to an all-white building that was beginning to show signs of wear and tear. With the ever-changing urban landscape of Downtown Denver, the building needed an update to fit in with the evolving style of the area.

Project Overview
Hyder Construction brought CertaPro Painters on board to handle multiple phases of the exterior painting work. Our team was tasked with painting the fascia, soffits, and trim accents of the building. The building itself had a large and intricate footprint, requiring detailed planning and coordination. The previous paint job was an all-white, dated look, and the building had clearly seen better days.
The goal was to modernize the exterior and make the building more visually appealing. As a part of the larger downtown revitalization efforts, it was crucial for the building to blend with the surrounding architectural upgrades happening across the area. CertaPro’s job was to bring the building up to date while ensuring that the work was done efficiently and professionally, even with other construction activities happening on-site.
Challenges and Solutions
As with any large commercial project, there were several challenges involved. One of the main obstacles was gaining access to various parts of the building during the ongoing construction. The construction site was busy with multiple subcontractors working on different aspects of the building. Coordinating access to the areas we needed to paint required careful scheduling and constant communication with the general contractor and other teams.
Additionally, due to the size of the building and the complexity of its footprint, we needed specialized equipment to get the job done. A swing stage was required for access to the higher parts of the structure. For areas that were even more difficult to reach, we brought in a 160-foot boom lift to work above the ground-level construction. This lift was essential for safely reaching the upper sections of the building, including the soffits and fascia.
Modernizing an Outdated Look
The building’s original all-white exterior was showing signs of aging and had become an eyesore in an area that was rapidly modernizing. Our team at CertaPro Painters worked to give the building a fresh look, while still maintaining the structural integrity of the existing surfaces.
We focused on key exterior features, such as the soffits, fascia, and prominent column-type structures, to create a cohesive and clean appearance. Each surface was prepped thoroughly to ensure the new paint would adhere properly and provide long-lasting protection. This preparation included cleaning, sanding, and repairing minor damages as needed. Once prepped, the surfaces were primed and painted with high-quality, weather-resistant paint to ensure durability in Denver’s unpredictable climate.
The final result was a sleek, modern exterior that revitalized the building and enhanced its overall aesthetic. The updated color scheme gave the structure a fresh face, helping it fit into the updated look of the surrounding downtown area.
