The Kitchen Cabinet Restoration & Painting Process
With a fresh coat of paint, your cabinets (and kitchen) will be entirely transformed. The images below provide a high-level overview of what you can expect during a cabinet painting project.
Step 1 - Remove Hardware
We start every cabinet painting project by removing the hardware and doors. We then carefully disassemble all knobs, latches, and handles making sure to store all screws for reassembly.
Step 2 - Prepare Surfaces
We remove all grit and grime from the wood and sand the surfaces. This will help the paint and stain bond to the cabinets properly.
Step 3 - Apply Primer
We apply a primer evenly to all surfaces to guarantee a durable finish. We find that water-based finishes are better to work with and offer a more durable finish for kitchen cabinets.
Step 4 - Apply Paint
We apply a thin, light coat of paint to the entire surface. Once that coat dries after a few hours, we add our second coat of paint. For most cabinet repainting projects, two quality coats of paint is enough to offer a vibrant appearance.
Step 5 - Reassemble Cabinets
After the paint is fully dry, the cabinets and hardware are put back together. The end result are beautiful kitchen cabinets with a brand new look.
