Pretty Painted Floors for San Antonio Homes
Posted on April 30, 2019
Rugs are so last season and bare floors are boring. Take the time to create a work of art with paint on your flooring. As the newest flooring trend, they are a bold choice and give you another way to show your personality in your home.
Painted floors are a bit of a tricky process, but will create big style points and last for years to come if done right. Transformations on everything from linoleum to concrete are a cost effective way to revive old, boring floors.
Painted floors can allow you to bring anything from color to texture and print to your floors. The trend began with outdoor patios and porches, creating faux rugs and has moved indoors to nearly every room in the house. If you decide on a pattern, experts recommend a larger stencil to avoid the floor feeling busy.
Preparation will be the key to a great finish. Sand down any finishes on your floor for proper paint adhesion. It’s a good idea to both vacuum and sweep. Apply a quality primer and allow ample dry time before moving on.
When applying paint to your floor, it’s recommended to use a brush rather than a roller to avoid the nap texture from coming through. It can also pull the paint away from the floor causing the pattern to pick up off of the flooring. Using a good latex or oil based paint will help your creation stand the test of time. It’s important to use a polyurethane sealer on top of your finished product to avoid issues with wear and tear from walking and furniture.
Matchy-matchy
Some artistic types have used the same pastel colors to brighten up their ceiling and floor creating a mirror effect. A light blue or yellow mimics the sun or sky outside and creates an ethereal feeling in the room.
Where are We?
If you are looking for a nautical feel, create an oversized compass on the floor. You can choose to do a shade slightly off of the floor or the more adventurous designers choose a charcoal or burgundy. Extra points if you find true north and set your compass appropriately.
Black on Wood
A typically boring hallway is dolled up with a black painted pattern on the wooden floor. It’s a nod to the fancy houses of the royals the feature floor decor. The wood creates a natural contrast to the stark black creation.
Staircase Style
Rather than go old school and add runners to your stairs, take to paint. Create a faux runner with color. As an alternate options, create contrast by painting only the front of your stairs. Get even more wild and go ombre or stripe. The stairs give you a unique canvas to express yourself on.
