<\/a><\/p>\nLike any painting project, preparation is key. Before they could get started painting, our crew got to work making sure the surface was properly readied for the paint. First, to remove the existing coating, they applied a full dry sandblast. Sandblasting, is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface. This process removes any old or loose paint, and ensures that the surface is as even as possible for a uniform finish.<\/p>\n
Primer<\/h3>\n
Next, we applied a mastic epoxy prime coat as the base layer. Epoxy primers are frequently used in commercial painting, especially on metal surfaces like our fuel tanks, because they aid in corrosion control. They also prevent further damage to already vulnerable surfaces. By sealing out the oxygen from the metal, we eliminate the chances of rust formation and corrosive weathering, giving the tanks a longer life, and less need for future frequent repairs.<\/p>\n
High-Quality Finish<\/h2>\n
Our final layer was a high solids polyurethane that locked in the bright, white sealing agents that would protect the fuel tanks for years to come. Polyurethane coatings are highly recommended for heavy duty industrial structures, as they form a resistance to chemical and abrasive deterioration. This coating will make the fuel tanks stronger, less susceptible to rust, and overall more durable.<\/p>\n While we can\u2019t control external factors that work to corrode and deteriorate metal, we can do our best to protect it.
