Repainting is Half the Battle

Make sure your newly-painted hallway looks its best by rethinking your wall hangings.

Hallways get a lot of wear-and-tear, and not a lot of attention. Now is a great time to update your halls with fresh coats of paint, which will do wonders for cleaning up the many contact points that become soiled with daily contact. And there’s no better opportunity to freshen your wall hangings than when CertaPro is applying a new coat of paint.

Don’t: Rehang every piece of artwork and every photo in exactly the same place. Your collection of hallway art has likely grown over the years. Putting it back in exactly the same spot is a missed opportunity.

Do: Take time to mix up your arrangement. Perfect rows of family photos are out; organically-arranged gallery walls are in. Break out of the grid and adopt this fun look to create a big impact in your updated hallway. The best part? You won’t have to buy a single new piece!

Now is a great time to update your halls with fresh coats of paint, which will do wonders for cleaning up the many contact points that become soiled with daily contact.

Don’t: Pretend your picture frames are just as fashionable as the day you bought them.

Do: Keep your photos and art looking contemporary by selectively replacing the most dated frames in your collection. Faded mats, separating frames, and finishes that haven’t been in style since you were wearing parachute pants are ready to be retired. Luckily, most frame sizes can be found at local craft stores or online. And don’t worry about replacing every single frame – updating even a few will make a difference.

Don’t: Think that what worked with your old hall color will be flattered by the new. Your artwork may have been the perfect choice when hanging atop your previous hallway color, but if you’ve changed shades some adjustments may be in order.

Do: Review your collection. Just because a piece of art no longer works in your hallway doesn’t mean you won’t find a place for it elsewhere in your home. Likewise, walk through your house to hunt for pieces that will better match the new hallway color. Not having any luck? You can try selecting the most neutral art in your collection. Want more punch? Consider framing neutral art with a more colorful, complementary mat.
