The Commercial painting project:

Turn a 6,200 square foot former restaurant painted in warm (but faded) tones, into a modern-looking bike store with a fresh on-trend monochromatic color palette. To make the job more complicated the wooden roof overhangs and architectural details of the vertical surfaces needed their color change as well.

Before preparation and painting:

Here you can see the restaurant before the work began. It was a sun-faded shade of orange, with stucco damage and cracking issues in multiple places as well as rotten wood. The overhang of the roof with exposed beams was painted an even darker orange. Before work could commence in earnest the existing signage needed to be removed and the building needed to be prepped.

Faded and covered in signage

It would take more than just swapping signs to get it ready for a second life.

During the transformation:

After repairing the stucco and replacing rotten wood in multiple places, the exterior windows were covered in protective plastic and the exterior walls were sprayed. From the original orange, a much more modern off-white color was chosen that would work well as an exterior color for a bike store and that was more in keeping with the company’s brand image.

When the walls were finished being painted the overhang and exposed wood beams were painted black for added contrast. The building also had a series of “rings” around square columns that needed to also be painted in the same contrasting color.

The wooden overhang and beams were painted a contrasting trim color for a modern look.

Tying it all together

Tying it all together

Every column had two bands that needed to be painted the same color as the overhanging wood.

After the project was completed:

With the painting completed and new signage attached the building looks almost purpose-built to be a bike store.  Combining the modern paint scheme with large windows and a glass framed entrance, you wouldn’t know it was ever a restaurant.

A much brighter future

No longer orange, the outside looks clean, modern and monochromatic while retaining its signature roof tile color.

As the building transitions from food service to retail it was important that the entry look cleaning and inviting.
