Trim color- Lost in a sea of white?

Posted on March 20, 2023

White trim… everyone wants it, but many get stuck trying to pick a color. There are hundreds of white paint colors to pick from between Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and other brands available. How do you decide?

Looking around at your home at the wall color, floor color, and décor you have is the first step.  We want to determine the undertone we want to use—warm, cool, or a neutral.  Warm white tends to have more of a yellow undertone while cool colors will have a grey or blue undertone. There are some whites that fall right in the middle with no real visual undertone that we will call neutral.

We always recommend you test in your home as lighting will affect how it looks. Northern/ Eastern light will put a cool cast on colors while Southern/Western light adds more yellow light. This will emphasize or downplay the undertone.

Below are our top white colors that we use the most here at CertaPro Painters® of Nashua, NH. Need help? We are happy to come out and walk you through the options and process with a color consultation.

  • SW High Reflective A bright white neutral similar to BM Chantilly Lace
  • SW Extra White- Very bright and white, similar to SW High Reflective white but tends to work better with cooler colors
