In Need Of A Makeover

This customer was not happy with the look of their deck, and so they decided to hire CertaPro Painters of MetroWest to completely transform it. The deck had a red solid stain that the customer did not love…it was pretty weathered. The rails were peeling pretty badly. We made a recommendation of stripping the deck and going with a semi-transparent stain that would bring out the grain in the wood and make for lower maintenance going forward.

A Project in Progress

The key to a high-quality staining job is getting off all of the previous stain without damaging the wood in any way. You can use a grinding tool with a regular attachment or a Diamabrush Diamond grit whieel accessory. You can never get all of the solid stain off because some it has made its way into the nooks and crevices of the aging wood but we can remove 90-95%. The semi-transparent stain should do a decent job covering any residual stain.

A Job Well Done

After staining the deck and painting the railings, the customer was very satisfied with the new look of their deck. Rather than a solid red, the new semi-transparent stain allowed the natural beauty of the wood grain to shine through. Not only is this a more sophisticated look, but it also requires less maintenance than the solid shade stain that was previously applied.
