Fall is the Perfect Time for Interior House Painting

Posted on October 10, 2019

As we head indoors for the winter, if it’s time to upgrade your paint, now is the time. You’ll be locked indoors for the season, so treat yourself to a new coating. Here’s why fall is the perfect time for interior house painting

Availability

Since fall is not traditionally thought of for painting, most painters will have more availability to get your project done soon. The backlog of work from summer has been completed and crews are ready to go. So while appointments are scheduled several weeks out over the warmer months, you could be looking at a few days or so in fall.

Weather

Closely related to the availability is the weather. Since temperatures are much more moderate, you will likely be encouraged to paint longer. Be cautious of temperatures getting too low. Below 40 degrees and your paint viscosity could be affected. Your paint will become thicker and harder to roll on.

With cooler temperatures, it’s much more comfortable to open a window and increase the ventilation in the room. You’ll also be more comfortable throughout the process with crisp breezes blowing through. This will help your project along with shorter dry times between your coats. Pair the dry air with cool wind coming through and you’ll be done sooner than you know with beautiful results.

Cost

Most painters are experiencing a lull post-summer. Because of this, they tend to offer specials or add on benefits for painting during this time of year. There could be savings in order if you are painting and keeping the crews busy in the off-season.

Holidays

As a smaller consideration, if you are hosting family from out of town or having the gang over for dinner, crisp, clean walls create the perfect background for your holiday decor. A less than lovely bathroom can quickly be updated or bring a new feel into a great room with a brand new color. Just remember to choose colors accordingly. It’s tempting to pick with the holiday theme in mind, but the color will remain long after the decorations have come down.
