Removing wallpaper, patching, and repainting a bedroom in Huntington Beach

This bedroom was all set for a repaint to change it’s look but rather than a simple job of prep and paint there were walls in the room that had been wallpapered as accent walls. Before they could be painted they needed to be restored to their original smooth surface in order to complete the project.

Before the work began…

The wallpaper had been applied in the normal manner with plenty of adhesive and had then spent years attached to the walls with an iron grip. Before any normal prep or painting could take place the wallpaper needed to be removed.

The wallpaper removal work starts…

Wallpaper removal is tricky because the goal is to end up with a wall that looks like it had never been wallpapered, but in order to get there you have to have the tools, skills, and experience to remove it with minimal damage to the underlying surface. Using tools like putty knives, wallpaper scoring tools, steam machines and hot water are the order of the day in order to get the wallpaper to release its hold on the walls. Once the paper is off you also have to remove any residual adhesive to get back to the drywall.

The Walls are patched…

With both the wallpaper and adhesive removed the walls then had to have a very smooth finish. To achieve that patching and retexturing with taping compound is required along with sanding to create a perfectly flat surface.

When the room was finally repainted…

You can see that the results are dramatic. Once the rest of the room received normal prep work the whole room was painted a dark and bold shade of black. While you might not think so, black is a color that can highlight minor flaws in a wall. With much attention to detail and a skilled crew the final result was achieved and the homeowners were thrilled.
