Three Signs Your Home has Lead-Based Paint
1. Your home was built before 1978. Up until this year, lead-based paint was legally manufactured. The older your home was built prior to 1978, the higher the odds that your home has lead-based paint on it.
2. Wooden boards on your home are “alligatoring”. This is a checkered texture that resembles the scales of an alligator. As lead paint fails, this is often a sign.
3. Excessive failure. Once a home with lead paint reaches a certain age, typically 80 – 120 years, the rate at which it begins to fail will accelerate. If you’re experiencing excessive paint failure, even after a recent paint job, the age of the lead paint (and deteriorating surface) is likely the cause.
