Kids might have fleeting ideas of what they like, but giving them a bedroom that shows their personality doesn\u2019t have to be. Kids have very strong opinions on what they want, with some finessing, you can both be happy with their choice. Make a fun project of it for the whole family with these 11 fun ways to paint a kids bedroom.<\/p>\n

1. Pastels<\/h2>\n

Keep it simple and choose a pastel color that can grow with your child. A nice green or yellow can be updated with new textiles and accessories as the child changes their interests and personality. The color will become just a backdrop to the other items you decorate the room with.<\/p>\n

2. Brights<\/h2>\n

Is your child to strong willed to accept pastel? Pick a bright, solid color. Go with a bright blue or purple to give your child a room their friends will envy. You\u2019ll be seen as the cool parent when in reality, this color will last them clear into their teen years. Again, a bright color will act as the backdrop to posters and other personality items that your child brings in.<\/p>\n

3. Accents<\/h2>\n

Not willing to commit to a bright room? Try to compromise with one accent wall. It can be a bright color, a pattern or something vibrant you might not be willing to ok as a whole-room look. Try a bright chevron or a creative polka dot to earn extra cool points.<\/p>\n

4. Chalkboard<\/h2>\n

Let your child decorate their room time and time again, by putting down a layer of chalkboard paint. This way, writing on the walls becomes a passtime and a decoration for the child\u2019s room. Keep in mind, to do a whole room, the walls will come out black. It\u2019s a big commitment and visible from your hallway, so just be sure going in.<\/p>\n

5. Have a helper<\/h2>\n

Bringing your little helper in can make a mess, but it also teaching your child the work that goes into changing a room\u2019s look, meaning they will take care of it. Use an oversized shirt and lots of drop cloths to avoid messes.<\/p>\n

6. Sponge it<\/h2>\n

Create a project for you and your child. Get some natural or porous sponges and do a sponge painting on the wall. Do a base coat, probably without your helper is best. Then use a brighter or contrasting color to dip the sponge and stamp a pattern on the wall.<\/p>\n

7. Stencils<\/h2>\n

Make or buy a stencil of something to add personality to the walls. Make a pattern of the stencil around the wall, as a chair rail or a border. Consider using a stencil on an accent wall. It\u2019s another good way to get your child involved in the painting process.<\/p>\n

8. Image<\/h2>\n

Have a budding artist or artist in the family? Bring them in to create a masterpiece on the wall. This creates a truly unique room for your child. It can be a single small piece or an entire wall. Find something that your child enjoys that can be incorporated into their room in this way.<\/p>\n

9. Literary<\/h2>\n

Bring in words from a book or story that your child likes. It can be a stenciled or hand drawn typography of the words. Even something simple like once upon a time, wish upon a star or other famous quote.<\/p>\n

10. Themes<\/h2>\n

A completely themed room is great. It can create a whole oasis for your child to live in. Remember, children change their minds a lot. Before committing to a themed room, make sure your child is 100% on board with this theme and it\u2019s not just a fleeting idea.<\/p>\n

11. Murals<\/h2>\n

Taking off of the image idea earlier, create a four-walled mural of a fantasy. Work on it when you can to create a walk in creativity lair for your son or daughter. Remember, don\u2019t be limited to the walls, there is a floor and ceiling too!<\/p>\n
