Living Room Makeover with Spring Home Decor

Posted on April 12, 2020

It’s only natural to feel the tug to update your house for the spring season. Birds are singing and plants are blooming, so we’re sure you’ve already started your interior to-do list for spring.

Here’s how to complete a living room makeover with spring home decor.

Clean

Start your project with a thorough cleanout. Now is the time to open the windows and do your best Snow White. Musty, recycled air and heavy materials are sure to be hanging onto odors and the last pieces of winter.

Take on projects that may have been neglected over the winter. Take time to wash baseboards, dust from top to bottom, and clean the floors, both exposed and under furniture.

Touch Up

With the winter, we’re sure your living room saw extra guests, numerous decorations, and more mixed drink spills than you’ll ever admit. Take the extra steps to shampoo carpets and rugs. In addition, give your walls a once over for rogue spills and dings from the Christmas tree.

Use a magic sponge to attempt to remove the wine splatters and small knicks in the walls. Larger issues might need some spackle and sanding to make them invisible. Lastly, either touch up the wall with leftover paint. If you run into an issue where the color of your patch looks off, you may have to paint the entire wall.

Replace

For the winter, dark and stoic is the name of the game. For spring and summer, airy and vibrant is where you should aim. Sometimes switching out some key items in your room can give it a totally different feel.

To update your room, add some brightly colored lamps. These don’t need to be designer, expensive lamps. Get some vivid paint that matches your room and some garage sale lamps and set to it. Colors that work particularly well for this project are yellow, teal, blue, or red.

Tuck away heavy throws and blankets that won’t be necessary for the warmer months. If you have a lighter-colored blanket you want to toss over the edge of the couch, make sure it matches with your new lamps and lighter room.

Add

Once you have your new lamps in place, take down heavy and dark curtains that kept you warm all winter and replace them with light and whimsical sheers. These will allow more daylight in and give your living room a natural glow from the sun.

Another way to bring the outside feeling in is through plants. The addition of some greenery through plants and trees lightens a space and makes it feel fresh. Is it because the plant is cleaning the air? Doesn’t matter, your family will notice the pop of nature inside.

If these tasks don’t give you the living room makeover of spring decor that you were looking for, consider an interior repainting of your living room. Our team is knowledgeable at choosing wall colors that will work year-round and can be adapted seasonally. Schedule a no-obligation estimate today!
