How to know it’s time to paint

Posted on September 23, 2019

Painting the exterior of your home can be a hassle, it can also be tough to know if your home needs painted. But not to worry, here are some telltale signs it is time to paint the exterior of your home.

Fading Paint Colors

The most obvious sign that it is time to paint is the color is fading on your siding or trim. This is most prevalent on darker bolder colors like blues, reds, and grays. However, lighter colors can show fading as well.

Rotting Wood

The next sign of your home needing updated is rotted wood on the home. Most homes have some sort of wood on them, it could be fascia trim, window trim, door frames, or soffits, to name a few. Wood is beautiful and adds a lot of character and charm to a home, but it also requires maintenance to make sure water hasn’t compromised its integrity. It can be difficult to distinguish rotted wood from peeling paint on wood, especially if the wood is on a 2nd story where you can’t examine it up close. If you are unsure whether your home has rotten wood give us a call and we can come out and give you a free inspection.

Failing Caulk

The last sign I will discuss is failing caulk on your home. Caulk is extremely important for keeping water out of the cracks in your home. Caulk has a lifespan that is much shorter than that of your home. It will eventually fail over time. It is import to keep your home on a tight paint schedule to not only maintain the look of your home but also the integrity of the surfaces.
