This was an interior banister project we did. It was a wood finish with a clear coat on top. To do these kind of jobs we thoroughly sand down the surface to remove the clear finish and apply the strongest primer we can get our hands on so that the paint will stick and not sheer off with the amount of hand traffic railings see. We then applied a urethane semi-gloss top coat in Sherwin-Williams urbane bronze color. The result is very slick!
