{"id":1611,"date":"2017-01-08T11:06:50","date_gmt":"2017-01-08T16:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bryn-mawr.certapro.com\/?page_id=1611"},"modified":"2017-01-08T11:06:50","modified_gmt":"2017-01-08T16:06:50","slug":"why-does-clapboard-peel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/certapro.com\/bryn-mawr\/why-does-clapboard-peel\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Does Clapboard Peel?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is probably one of the biggest, unanswered (or poorly answered) questions in this industry. \u00a0These are my answers based on experience (25 years) including over 2000 2 year warranty inspections, internet searches, painting for the founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paintquality.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">PQI (Paint Quality Institute)<\/span><\/a>, \u00a0inspections with paint representatives (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.benjaminmoore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">Ben Moore<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sherwin-williams.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">Sherwin Williams<\/span><\/a>) and training sessions through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.certapro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">CertaPro Painters<\/span><\/a> Headquarters in Oaks, PA.<\/p>\n<p><b>PREVIOUSLY PAINTED CLAPBOARD<\/b><br \/>\nClapboard tends to be an area of concern when repainting a house &#8211; particularly if it has been painted several times. \u00a0The combination of several coats of oil paint (does not allow the wood to breath) and the filling of the gaps between the boards (does not allow the moisture to escape between the boards) leads to premature peeling of the clapboard. \u00a0The moisture from the house needs to escape somehow &#8211; typically it tries to push the paint off the clapboard. \u00a0There are several solutions to this, but they are expensive. \u00a0If you are interested, please talk to me about them &#8211; most often our clients decide to paint as usual and take their chances.<\/p>\n<p>I hope these answers shed some light on your questions. To be clear, these are my opinions &#8211; and you could find many opposing opinions if you hunt around a bit.
