Q & A Residential Painting

4 Rooms to Paint for the Holidays

Posted on September 23, 2021

The weather is still warm, but the holidays are sneaking up on us. Now is the time to begin sprucing up your indoors to host holiday gatherings and guests. Before unpacking the fall and winter decor, give your walls a once over. If they are not looking great, it might be time to paint for the holidays.

Calendars are busy for the next few months with holiday gatherings and parties making it an exciting time of year. Decorations, food, family and friends and more make it a fun and memorable time. Don’t let your walls bring the party down!

Remember when choosing your palette that it should go with your holiday look while also being appealing enough to look at the rest of year. Coordinating with timeless neutrals like white, taupe or silver can be the perfect solution. For warmer options, go more yellow, green or beige.

Before your estimate, get a good idea of the areas you would like to address. Some common areas have had more use this last 18 months and likely the walls are showing it. To stay within budget, focus on places that will be used for your holidays. If you’re hosting holidays meals, aim for the kitchen and dining area. Are guests be staying with you? Update the guest bath and bedroom.

Dining Room

Dining rooms get most of their annual use during the holidays. This often empty area tends to be overlooked during renovations. Give it a makeover with a pleasing color and the space will feel new again. Choose a hue that will compliment table linens, centerpieces and dishes used for the holidays.

Kitchen

Kitchens have been the centerpiece of the home, especially the last year or so… meaning more spills, splatters and messes on the walls. Degreasing and painting a fresh coating of paint will go far in allowing your kitchen to stand out for good reasons. Coordinating the colors between the kitchen and dining area creates a style forward look to set the stage for family and friends.

Guest Rooms

Holidays and out of town guests, especially in the warm south are not uncommon. Guest rooms and bathrooms sit vacant most of the time; out of sight, out of mind. Before the extra bodies arrive, take inventory of your extra towels, sheets and pillows. While you’re in the guest bath and bedroom, inspect the walls. If they are dingy, consider a paint job to give the room a fresh feeling.

Family Rooms

How many of us have formal living rooms and family rooms we never give a second thought? Set the tone for Christmas morning unwrapping or New Years Eve clinking by adding an accent wall and new paint to the walls.
