10 Questions to Ask When Planning a Home Project in a Pandemic

Posted on January 21, 2021

Want to know one thing that’s cool about owning a business like CertaPro? I get so many design ideas from running around Augusta and seeing all my customers’ beautiful homes day in and day out. Finally, after dreaming and planning for years, we are finishing up my long-awaited remodeling project for my kitchen.

Planning a home renovation project is always so exciting. There’s the fun creative part (picking house paint colors!) but there’s also a ton of stressful variables. Which contractors am I going to use? What is the estimated timeline for this project?

And now there’s a whole new layer of things to be concerned about with the Covid pandemic going on.

Because I just went through this, I decided to put together a list of questions for you to ask as you’re planning your home project during this pandemic. My hope is that by going through these questions in advance, you’ll be able to pick a contractor who has the health and safety of your family as their top priority. Like legitimately. You don’t want someone in your home that only pays this pandemic lip service.

Here are some signs that your contractor has your safety in mind:

    • Do they offer a remote estimate?
    • Did they ask if you were going to wear a mask yourself?
    • When they arrived did they already have their mask on your door?
    • Did they remember not to shake your hand or directly hand you the business card?

All of these things are signs of health and safety is high on your priority list once the project begins.

Things you should ask your contractor about the project once it is going to start:

    • How do they plan to protect the family once the workers arrive?
    • Will they put a plastic barriers to keep your breathing space separate from your families?
    • Will they have zippers in the plastic for easy access after they’ve left at night?
    • How often is normal for the workers to be face-to-face with you?
    • Do they clean surfaces before leaving each and every night?
    • Did the workers were shoe guards or other PPE other than masks?

If asking these questions makes your potential contractor go “huh?”, then clearly they are not prepared for Pandemic levels of precaution.
